Tuesdays is our night for kihon (basic exercises) along with kata (forms). In one class, students learn basic kata which is followed by advance kata training and their bunkai (applications of techniques in kata).
Wednesdays we focus on self-defense and samurai arts. The first class is all about self-defense. We extract self-defense techniques from kata and apply them to various situations such as defending against a drunk in a bar, someone with a knife, a revolver, a rifle, a club, or more than one person. Some evenings, we even turn out the dojo lights and let our students wander through the dojo defending against selected attackers.
The late class is about samurai. In the samurai arts class, you will learn to use a katana (samurai sword), a naginata, yari, hanbo, nitanbo and other samurai weapons including hojojutsu and jujutsu.
On Thursdays, members learn use of kobudo weapons. These are the tools of farmers and fishermen from Okinawa that were converted to weapons for self-defense.
Then we have periodic clinics on a variety of martial arts. Check our schedule for our classes.
